BOAT LAUNCH USAGE for TPYC MEMBERS

    1. TPYC Boat Launch (BL) use is for current TPYC members in good standing.
    2. Except for approved TPYC events and regattas, guest boats are never permitted to use the launch.
    3. The BL will remain gated and locked, with a unique code, to prevent nonmember boat access. Gate must be relocked immediately after launch is complete.
    4. For access, boat(s) must be registered, in advance of launch, with the Harbor Master or Commodore.
    5. The Harbor Master maintains a master list of all boats using the launch and manages moorings.
    6. The BL is gravel and stone. Use all-wheel or 4W-drive, drive slowly, and repair any tire ruts before leaving. Vehicles towing boats should not proceed beyond the stop sign where beach access begins.
      • Larger vehicle should back down the BL from the Yacht Club Road.
      • Smaller vehicles may opt to turn around at the BL.
      • Hand pushed dollies may use the beach to BL
    7. Except while actively launching, boats/cars/trailers/equipment may not be left in the launch area. Boats and trailers must be parked and stored in designated areas only.
    8. Be respectful of other club members and activities, including lesson programming during the week. the three swim docks are never for boat pull up. Please use the boat docks only.
    9. Boaters shall obey all laws and maintain headway speed near the shore and when close to sailboats.
    10. Misuse of the BL or sharing of access will be grounds for revoking club membership. Members witnessing misuse should report it to the Commodore. The Board’s decision will be final.
    11. Because TPYC was founded as a sailing club and to limit risks posed by engines, applications received after 6/20/26 from new members owning motorboats will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

    CONSIDERATIONS and BACKGROUND

    • TPYC is committed to the long-term protection of Taylor Pond’s water and natural habitat.
      • There is no return from milfoil infestation…BL use is intended primarily for seasonal use, not day tripping. Wet equipment should be inspected and cleaned or fully dried before transfer, as moving between fresh water bodies risks the potential of invasive species spread. This is particularly important for watercraft with engines.
      • Baking soda is safe for cleaning, as opposed to soap, detergent, other chemicals.
    • The need for careful management in order to safely and effectively maintain the BL, the Yacht Club Road, and the Club grounds, for all members, not just launch users. Consolidating usage when possible, to reduce associated traffic, and better preserve the ramp and road.
    • The importance of clear guidelines, with observation and oversight, especially in year 1.
    • Recognition that protocols will establish this as an operational Club BL.
    • The expectation that usage and protocols will be reviewed throughout the season and afterward.
    • The impact of boat ramp usage on other aspects of TPYC and its members. Use should not interfere with the safety and enjoyment of the grounds by other TPYC members.
    • Unidentified boats/trailers/equipment left post-season anywhere on club grounds is considered abandoned and property of TPYC.
    • Eliminate the risk of non-member use
    • In February 2026, the TPYC BL Usage Committee presented recommended usage protocols for Taylor Pond Association (TPA) members with deeded pond access. The Board approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between TPYC and TPA outlining TPA's limited, fee access, preseason and post season. It allows put in and take out for boats that live on Taylor Pond, but not at TPYC.

    June 20, 2024

Summer has arrived with high heat and lots of sun shine.

I hope you and your family are enjoying swimming, tennis and the water sports at the club.

We have a few key points of information to share:

The first is there is a need for support this Saturday 6/22/24 to paint the Jr Club house. Tom Ward is leading this event, it starts on Saturday at 8:00am, Tom is looking for help scraping, taping off trim and windows. He is going to spray the build and he will need help back brushing the paint into the shingles. Bring a scraper, brush and a ladder if you can. Tom will have other supplies for you to use.

The TPYC has a rich history of being a place that friends gather and a social network was developed. COVID change our social culture, we want to find ways for all of our members to join in on fun family and adult events. We schedule socials around BBQ’s, sailing events and holidays.

We need help, the board is looking for a few members to support a social committee, we need to reach our membership and ask the important question. What are the social events that interest you; we have done painting classes, beer tasting, BBQs and fire pit gatherings.

Reach out to me to let me know if you have an interest of joining a committee. We also will be sending a quick survey to seek feedback on interest around social events.

Summer lessons, please go to the website and sign up. We are offering seven weeks of swim and tennis and 4 weeks of sailing. Sailing starts on July 8, 2024. Questions , please reach out to Bruce Hall.

On the website we are developing a list of repairs and work that needs to be done, the list will be up very soon, if you want to help, take a look at an activity and let Mik or Ashley The Bosuns, that you have an interest, they can support the supply need of any project.

Board meetings are on the deck at the club, dates are on the club calendar. Please feel free to join us.

    Enjoy the club!!
